Byo man appeals for financial assistance to go to university

A 19-year-old man from Bulawayo is appealing for financial assistance to pursue his undergraduate studies at the Midlands State University.

Professor Sibanda, of Mpopoma suburb, was accepted at MSU to study for a Bachelor of Arts Honours in History and International Studies after completing his Advanced Level at Msiteli High School last year.

In an interview with CITE, Sibanda narrated that he was orphaned at a young age when he was still in primary school and he managed to get through school via a well-wisher, Patricia Tshabalala.

โ€œI am appealing to well-wishers to assist me to pursue my academic career. I want to study History and International Relations at MSU. My fee is ZWL$288 000 a semester and it is due on 27 February. The university said I can at least pay half in the meantime to be admitted into the first semester. I also need US$120 for food and accommodation when I get there,โ€ he said.

โ€œI live with my 77-year-old grandmother. My father passed when I was 4 years old and my mother passed when I was in Grade 6. MaTshabalala took me through school and I am very grateful. I have always been passionate about leadership and politics and this is why I chose this career path. I hope to get financial assistance so that I may be able to achieve my dream.โ€

Tshabalala pleaded with members of the public to assist Sibanda, citing that he is a hardworking young man who has put in much effort to get to where he is now.

โ€œHe is very obedient and he loves his schoolwork very much. When he was writing his โ€œOโ€ Level and โ€œAโ€ Level examinations he would always promise me that he would pass and he always did,โ€ she said.

โ€œI am proud of the journey that he has walked thus far and I really hope people out there would assist him to achieve his university dream. He has always wanted to go to university. He was orphaned at a young age but that did not deter him from his dreams.โ€
