Isaac Mpofu, a 54-year-old father of four from Bulawayo, is appealing for urgent medical assistance after a car accident left him paralysed.
The incident occurred on July 8, 2024, when Mpofu was struck by a vehicle while crossing the road near City Hall.
Mpofu recounted the traumatic events of that day, explaining that he was crossing the road when a parked Honda Fit suddenly moved forward, hitting him and trapping his legs under the wheels. The impact caused severe injuries, rendering him unable to walk.
“The car moved several meters before the driver stopped, unaware of the harm they had caused,” Mpofu said. “My legs suffered multiple fractures, with bones protruding from my ankle and knee.”
Despite the immediate cries for help from bystanders, Mpofu said the driver continued for a few more meters before stopping.
He added that the driver has provided no financial aid or compensation to help with his medical expenses or the necessary surgery, which costs US$1 300.
“I have two fractures in both my legs. The bone in my right ankle came out, and in my left knee, the bone also came out,” Mpofu said. “I kindly request assistance for US$1 300 to get the surgery and maybe have a chance to walk again.”
