Bulawayo man needs help to avoid amputation

By Promise Dube

Bellevue residents in Bulawayo South are seeking donations to assist a fellow resident Tafadzwa Pfute, 43, who recently suffered seizures and fractured his leg.

Without proper medical attention, the leg may need to be amputated.

Pfute was attacked by seizures while sleeping on December 28, 2023, resulting in a twisted right leg injury. He was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and has been hospitalised for three weeks.

Due to financial constraints, the Bulawayo South community is appealing for public donations to help Pfute receive the necessary medical treatment.

Pfute, unemployed, lives with his sister, child, and niece in their family home. Precious Ngwenya, a community representative, confirmed to CITE that they require US$650 for Pfute’s treatment and surgery.

“Pfute was attacked by seizures in his sleep, twisting his leg. He’s been admitted to Mpilo Hospital’s Ward A1 for three weeks now,” Ngwenya explained.

Concerned about the potential worsening of the injury, the community is rallying to provide the necessary support.

“The community has raised US$154 and ZWL$250,000 so far, but they still need to raise the remaining US$650 required for surgery this Friday. We, the ward leadership, urge the community to join us in assisting Tafadzwa, whose injuries could lead to amputation,” Ngwenya pleaded.

Ngwenya further shared that the ward community spokesperson confirmed Social Welfare will cover Pfute’s bedding at the hospital.

“Social Welfare mentioned they will handle the bedding costs,” Ngwenya said.
