BCC rolls out another polio vaccination campaign

The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) is rolling out the second round of polio vaccination for children aged between 0- 59 months.

The second round will be conducted from the 1st of December 2022 to the 4th of December 2022.

The campaign is part of a comprehensive response to Polio outbreaks reported in Malawi and Mozambique recently.

Polio is a contagious viral disease that, in its most severe form, causes nerve injury leading to paralysis and difficulty in breathing and children below five years are at risk of contracting it.

More than 2,5 million children under years of age were targeted across the country in the first vaccination round.

In a statement, Wednesday, the acting Town Clerk Dr Edwin Sibanda said the vaccination campaign will also be door to door.

“The city of Bulawayo will be participating in the national oral polio vaccine campaign in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC), A Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE) and partners,” said Dr Sibanda.

“The second round will be conducted from the 1st of December 2022 to the 4th of December 2022. All children aged 0-59 months.”

He said the vaccines will be given at all Municipal clinics, Central hospitals, Mater Dei hospital, private surgeries offering vaccination, creches, primary schools, market place, churches, bus termini, and outreach points including house to house.
