BPRA requests report on parking revenue spending

Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA) has requested a detailed report on the utilisation of funds accrued by Bulawayo City Council (BCC) from the parking system implemented in the city.

The parking system managed by Tendy Three Investments Private Limited (TTI) was implemented in February 2022, with motorists paying $1 per hour to park their vehicles in the city centre.

As of September 30, 2023, the city council had received US$698,000, R478,000, and ZWL$765 million from the project.

According to the agreement between TTI and the council, 30% of the collected revenue is remitted to the council for road maintenance while the former takes 70%.

In a letter to the City Finance Director, BPRA Director Permanent Ngoma requested a comprehensive breakdown of the funds received from the parking system in 2023.

โ€œBPRA would like to follow up on previous discussions regarding the matter mentioned above. Furthermore, based on the discussions held in 2023 with the City of Bulawayo and Tendy Three Investments, the former Acting Finance Director of the City of Bulawayo stated that funds from the city parking project would be ‘ring fenced’ and used exclusively to enhance the city’s road infrastructure,โ€ Ngoma said.ย

โ€œTherefore, BPRA is asking the local authority for a comprehensive breakdown of the funds received from the City Parking project in 2023. Additionally, BPRA is requesting a detailed breakdown of how the funds were utilised and which roads were refurbished utilising those funds, as residents’ concerns about the condition of our roads continue to grow. We appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to receiving the requested information.โ€
