BCC extends parking enforcement
The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) and Tendy Three Investments (TTI) Parking Solutions have revised their clamping and parking enforcement hours, now running from 6 AM to 7 PM daily, effective immediately.
This change complies with the BCC Clamping and Tow-away By-law, Statutory Instrument 220 of 2023. However, paid parking hours remain between 8 AM and 5 PM on weekdays, and from 8 AM to 1 PM on Saturdays.
In a statement, Bulawayo Town Clerk Christopher Dube confirmed the adjustment took effect on September 3, 2024.
“TTI would like to advise members of the public and stakeholders that the operating hours for parking enforcement have been extended from 06:00 hours to 19:00 hours as of Tuesday, 3 September 2024. This is in accordance with the City of Bulawayo’s Clamping and Tow-away By-law, Statutory Instrument 220 of 2023,” said Dube.
“We would like to clarify and reinforce that the Bylaw remains in full effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Compliance is expected at all times, with no designated hours for relaxation. The Bylaw is designed to ensure the safety, well-being, and harmony of our community.”
Dube explained that the extended operating hours aim to tackle reckless parking, which has become problematic after 5 PM.
“Recent trends of reckless parking, particularly after 17:00 hours, have raised significant concerns about public safety and traffic flow in Bulawayo. The lack of enforcement during these hours has resulted in parking violations that obstruct traffic and pose risks to both drivers and pedestrians,” he added.
The adjustment is intended to maintain consistent enforcement throughout the evening to safeguard public safety and improve traffic management.
