Nkosana Moyo steps down as APA president

Former minister and leader of the Alliance for People’s Agenda (APA) Nkosana Moyo has stepped down as party president.

“APA wishes to announce that Dr Nkosana Moyo is standing down as President and will, therefore, not be running in the Presidential elections in 2023,”  a statement released by AAP reads in part.

Moyo, also an economist, remains an ordinary member of the party formed in 2017.

He contested the 2018 presidential elections and received 15 223 votes.

The statement said APA secretary general Albert Gumbo will step in as acting president until a substantive leader is announced.

According to the statement, Moyo is focusing his energies Mandela Institute for Development Studies (MINDS).

“Dr Moyo has continued with his far-reaching and groundbreaking work with the Mandela Institute for Development Studies (MINDS).

“MINDS recently participated in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) summit in Rwanda and is deepening its work across the continent.

Moyo made headlines in 2001 when he quit his  Industry and International trade ministerial post to join his family in South Africa.

The former minister served for 10 months only.

The late President Robert Mugabe described him as a coward after his resignation.
