Armed robbers target cash-in-transit vehicle near ecobank in Byo

Bulawayo was gripped by shock and fear on Thursday as armed robbers executed a daring daylight heist, targeting a cash-in-transit vehicle near Ecobank, located at the corner of 9th Avenue and Fife Street.

The vehicle, which was under the guard of the local security company Safeguard, fell prey to masked men believed to have seized five boxes of money during the robbery.

Eyewitnesses were left stunned as the robbers struck quickly while looking calm as they executed their robbery.

The coordinated attack appeared to have been well-planned, as the robbers were said to have โ€˜neutralisedโ€™ the security personnel before loading their loot in their vehicle and making off with the cash.

The heist left witnesses and residents on edge, raising concerns over security in the city.

Contacted for comment, Bulawayo Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Abednigo Ncube, said he is currently out of town.

Similarly, Acting Police Spokesperson for Bulawayo, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, was yet to issue a formal statement as questions to her phone were yet to be responded to.

More details to follow.
