Former MDC-T organising secretary and Nkayi South legislator, Abednico Bhebhe is lucky to be alive after surviving a car accident that caused his vehicle to veer off a mountain cliff, along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Highway road on Sunday evening.
Bhebhe was driving when another vehicle encroached onto his lane and to avoid hitting it, swerved to the side only to veer off the meandering road, commonly referred to as Danger and rolled several times down the cliff.
The former Nkayi South legislator was on his to Bulawayo in the company of two relatives, when the accident occurred.
Bhebhe is currently admitted at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo undergoing treatment for injuries sustained during the accident.
His two relatives are also admitted at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH).
Bhebhe said they were lucky to survive the incident that almost caused them their lives.
“A vehicle encroached into my lane and as I tried to avoid a head on collision, I swerved and the car rolled down the cliff a couple of times down. We could have died during the head on collision or also after the accident. It is a miracle as to how we survived the whole car accident,” Bhebhe said in a telephone interview Monday.
“We thank God we survived the car crash even though the driver who caused out accident did not stop at the scene as far as we are told.”
Motorists have raised concern on how poor the Bulawayo-Beitbridge road is and usually have to be alert when driving along it.
Bhebhe was expelled from the MDC T in 2019 after allegations that he was working with the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa.
His expulsion came before Douglas Mwonzora was elected president of MDC-T at an elective congress held in Harare in December 2019.
