A tragic end over a cigarette: Luveve man arrested for murder

A 23-year-old man from Luveve suburb, in Bulawayo, has been arrested for murder following a fatal altercation over a cigarette.

According to Bulawayo province’s acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening at around 6 pm. The suspect, Takunda Mandizvidza, allegedly struck the victim, Adam Chigwedere, 25, with a stone on the head following a disagreement over a cigarette request.

The incident unfolded when Chigwedere visited his friend at his residence in Luveve. Upon finding his friend with other companions, including Mandizvidza, Chigwedere requested a cigarette from Mandizvidza.

Mandizvidza’s refusal to provide the cigarette sparked an argument, leading to Chigwedere assaulting Mandizvidza with a fist to the mouth.

In response to the assault, Mandizvidza picked up a stone and struck Chigwedere on the forehead, causing him to fall unconscious. Mandizvidza immediately fled the scene.

Chigwedere was rushed to Mpilo Hospital, where he was admitted and later succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
