Residents of Entumbane (Ward 10) in the city are breathing a sigh of relief after the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) ‘successfully’ repaired long-standing water leaks that had plagued the area for months.
The repairs come as a welcome relief to residents who had endured the persistent problem for years, which not only wasted precious water but also caused ongoing frustration and concern.
According to the area Councillor Khalazani Ndlovu, who penned a heartfelt appreciation letter on behalf of the residents to BCC, the council’s proactive measure demonstrates a strong commitment to water conservation and efficient infrastructure management.
“The council’s action in resolving this issue is a commendable step forward,” the councillor said.
“Not only has it alleviated a local nuisance, but it also directly contributes to the city’s crucial goal of curbing Non-Revenue Water.”
Ndlovu said the residents were grateful to have the leakages attended to.
“By fixing the leakages, the council has shown that it values the resource and is committed to ensuring its efficient use,” she said.

Ward 10 residents chairperson, Sikhululekile Ntambo, said households had been losing water for some time and fixing the leakages was commendable.
“We want to thank the city council for fixing the water leakage near D Square traffic lights on the side of Entumbane, which has been losing precious water for years. All the leaking repairs were successfully done. We really thank our Councillor K. Ndlovu and the city council for a job well done,” she said.
A youth leader and resident in Entumbane, Comfort Mpofu, also welcomed the development, noting that the issue of water leakages had been ongoing for years.
“As a result people ended up collecting water in those leakages, leading to non-revenue water,” said the youth leader.
“We strongly believe that non-revenue water has been a disadvantage to the city because it is water that has been used for free yet revenue from it could have been channeled towards improving the city. Having those leakages fixed is worth celebrating because we are moving in the right direction as a city.”
The councillor added that the “successful repair of the water leakages” is a positive development for the residents of Entumbane and the city at large.
“It demonstrates that the council is listening to the concerns of its residents and taking concrete steps to address them. This positive outcome is greatly appreciated by all,” Ndlovu said.
