Fuel shortages ground BCC operations
The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has advised residents of the interruption of ambulance services due to the shortage of fuel at a time when demand for the service is likely to be high owing to the busy festive period.
The fuel shortage has also affected other services which include refuse collection, water and sewer faults.
In a statement, Bulawayo Town Clerk, Christopher Dube said the City’s Ambulance services will prioritise critical emergencies.
“The City’s Ambulance services is also not able to respond at full throttle and will be prioritising calls and responding to critical emergencies in the following manner – Road Traffic Accidents, undiagnosed incidences at public spaces/home, maternity cases referred from municipal clinics, maternity cases from other places and other incidences with trained medical person in attendance,” said Dube.
He added that the local authority is working on restoring refuse collection services back to normalcy and residents are encouraged to keep the city clean.
“Council is working on ensuring speedy restoration of normal services and residents are encouraged to keep the City Clean and desist from dumping refuse in open spaces,” said Dube.
He added that residents should keep uncollected refuse within their properties.
“Uncollected refuse should be kept within household properties and will be collected when refuse collection resumes,” he said.
