Cowdray Park school receives CDF donation

Cowdray Park Primary School has received textbooks worth ZW$50 000 under the Community Development Fund (CDF).

The primary school which is still under construction has almost 1000 learners yet there are only three blocks of classrooms.

The books were bought under CDF which was availed to the constituency in 2018.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Luveve Constituency Member of Parliament Stella Ndlovu expressed gratitude to headmasters of schools in the constituency for making a unanimous decision to channel all the funds towards the purchase of textbooks.

Ndlovu said the books, although they are not many, are going to at least aid the learning process for the learners.

“Our constituency was given $50 000 last year for CDF. We rounded up school heads to brainstorm on possible projects we could do to develop our schools. We, however, realised that the money had devalued so a decision to solely assist Cowdray Park Primary was unanimously made by the school heads “said Ndlovu.

“When government funds are used with transparency, more will keep coming. This money is taxpayers’ money and should be used with great honesty.”

The primary school also received a donation of tables and chairs for their ECD class from the textbooks supplier.

The MP offered to pay school fees for three underprivileged Grade 7 pupils from each of the three primary schools in the constituency.

Ward 28 councillor, Kidwell Mujuru reiterated that developmental issues know no political boundaries.

He urged the CDF committee and the school development committee to ensure that the donated books are properly stored so that children can benefit from them for many years to come.

Cllr Mujuru commended the government for availing the CDF which is positively impacting many constituencies.

Mayor of Bulawayo, Solomon Mguni said Cowdray Park is the largest ward in Bulawayo, whose size equates to that of Gwanda town.

He said the city council is working towards building another school in the ward so that children in the ward can enjoy their right to education.
