Zimbabwe’s state-owned mobile network operator, NetOne, says it is stepping up efforts to support the country’s digital transformation through new products and service adjustments aimed at both visitors and local consumers.

In a statement, the company said it was “proud to reaffirm its commitment to driving Zimbabwe’s digital agenda through customer-centric innovations and strategic leadership” as it continues to expand its services nationwide.

Among the latest initiatives is the launch of a specialised Tourist SIM card, which NetOne says will be available free of charge at major entry points, including airports.

“This initiative ensures that visitors to Zimbabwe can access affordable, high-quality connectivity from the moment they arrive, supporting the ‘Zimbabwe is Open for Business’ philosophy,” the company said.

The Tourist SIM offers short-term data and voice bundles designed for travellers and remains active for 90 days.

“The Tourist SIM offers flexible bundles tailored to short-term visitors, reinforcing the country’s appeal as a premier destination. The SIM remains active for 90 days, ensuring visitors stay connected throughout their stay,” the statement added.

NetOne also announced changes to its off-peak data schedule, extending discounted usage hours. Off-peak access will now run from 22:00 to 05:00, replacing the previous 01:00 to 07:00 window.

“This customer-first adjustment allows more Zimbabweans to take advantage of faster, more affordable internet for overnight downloads, updates, and entertainment, aligning with the nation’s growing data consumption patterns,” the company said.

The operator described the changes as part of a broader strategy focused on “governance, reform, and technology”.

Through partnerships, including a recent memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, NetOne said it is working to create income-generating opportunities for young people while expanding digital and financial inclusion across the country’s ten provinces.

“NetOne’s leadership remains focused on steering the ship in the right direction, guided by principles of accountability, transparency, and integrity,” the statement said.

The company added that by “listening to customers and continuously refining its offerings”, it aims to strengthen its role in Zimbabwe’s technology-driven development.
