Music producer, DJ and Bulawayo cultural icon Slimzar Wa Afrika has announced the launch of the Slimzar Wa Afrika Foundation, a philanthropic initiative aimed at empowering underprivileged children and young people through technology, the arts and social support.

The foundation is focused on ensuring that disadvantaged youth are not excluded from global developments, combining community-based support with modern skills training.

According to the press statement, the initiative is “dedicated to ensuring that underprivileged children and youth are fully integrated into global developments through a unique blend of traditional support and modern skill acquisition.”

Slimzar Wa Afrika said the foundation was designed in response to widening digital and social inequalities.

“The foundation aims to bridge the digital and social divide by providing the less privileged with access to high level skills and career guidance and emerging technologies,” the statement said.

The Slimzar Wa Afrika Foundation will adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to youth development, focusing on both skills training and social welfare.

One of the key pillars is digital skills development. The foundation will provide training in coding, artificial intelligence and digital literacy to ensure young people are equipped to participate in a rapidly changing global economy.

“Recognising the rapid pace of global progress, Slimzar Wa Afrika has designed a curriculum and support system that ensures no child is left behind due to their background or economic status,” the statement said.

The foundation will also support creative arts development through professional music skills training and mentorship for aspiring artists.

Climate change awareness and environmental action form another central pillar. The foundation plans to host annual Climate Change Awareness Weeks, featuring tree planting initiatives, arts competitions focused on environmental themes, and advocacy talks aimed at nurturing eco-conscious leaders.

In addition, the foundation will promote green skills and innovation, offering education on sustainable practices and climate resilience to help young people understand and respond to environmental challenges in their communities.

Beyond skills development, the foundation will provide social welfare support, including meals, sanitary wear, clothing, winter blanket drives, and anti-drug and substance abuse campaigns.

These initiatives are intended to address immediate social needs while creating pathways for long-term empowerment.

Slimzar Wa Afrika said the foundation’s mission was to position young people as drivers of change.

“Our mission is to ensure that our youth are not just spectators of the future but active participants in it whether through music or coding or environmental advocacy,” he said.

He added: “We are committed to providing the best skills and technologies to those who need them most.”

The launch marks a shift from once-off charitable donations to long-term youth development and environmental stewardship.

According to the press statement, the foundation will work with local and international organisations to deliver its programmes.

The 2026 roadmap includes music lessons and professional skills development sessions led by industry experts, digital literacy workshops, coding and AI training, career guidance talks, anti-drug and substance abuse campaigns, provision of meals and sanitary wear, winter clothing drives, and dedicated Climate Change Awareness Weeks featuring tree planting and advocacy activities.
