Nkulumane by-election candidate Ester Zitha has unveiled her development plan for the constituency, pledging to build on the work of her late husband, former MP Desire Moyo, and promote inclusive, community-driven development.
Addressing residents during an online engagement, Zitha said she was entering the 20 December by-election with a commitment to strengthen local structures and ensure that development priorities are shaped by the people of Nkulumane.
“I pledge to serve Nkulumane to the best of my capabilities,” she said. “Our desire is to see a better Nkulumane for all, and today we present our plan to Nkulumane, Bulawayo and Zimbabwe.”
Zitha said her administrative blueprint draws from the systems created during Moyo’s tenure, which included establishing a full-time constituency office in Myoro and forming several community committees.
These structures, she said, had played a key role in selecting Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects.
“One of the major achievements before Honourable Moyo’s untimely departure was the opening of a fully functional office and the formation of committees that continue to operate today,” she said. “The plan has always been that development programmes come from the community itself, ‘Siyazenzela.’”
Zitha emphasised that her vision recognises all groups in the constituency, including elders, women, youths, widows, people with disabilities, learners and war veterans.
She said her campaign aligns with the late MP’s 2023–2028 development framework, which prioritises peace, cohesion, equality and inclusive growth.
Her goal, she added, is to help make Nkulumane a model constituency known for cultural diversity, strong values and community-led development.
“I pledge my commitment to facilitating people’s own innovative ideas of development into reality by 2028,” she said. “I would never forsake the communities that birthed me, raised me and supported me.”
Zitha closed her address by appealing for support in the upcoming by-election.
“I will celebrate with Nkulumane in times of joy, mourn with Nkulumane in times of misfortune and forever be a servant of the people,” she said. “Vote Ester Zitha, the legacy continues. Together, let’s make Nkulumane proud again.”
