Lets prepare for the next elections, Mnangagwa urges Zanu PF

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged Zanu-PF members to intensify mobilisation efforts to expand party membership as the ruling party begins positioning itself for Zimbabwe’s next harmonised general elections.

Addressing delegates at the 22nd Zanu-PF National People’s Conference in Mutare on Friday, Mnangagwa emphasised “unity of purpose” and called on party structures to recruit new members from diverse backgrounds.

“Focus must be on guaranteeing the growth of our party membership in readiness for the harmonised general elections. Responsive strategies and approaches must be advanced to consolidate the visibility and influence of the Women, Youth and Veterans Leagues,” he said.

The Constitution of Zimbabwe mandates that elections be held in 2028. However, there has been speculation that Mnangagwa’s current presidential term could be extended to 2030.

Mnangagwa said political mobilisation should be a daily responsibility across all party structures, stressing the importance of harnessing members’ diverse skills for the “ultimate good” of the party.

“Let us carry on recruiting and welcoming new members from all walks of life and harness the diverse skills of the membership for the ultimate good of our revolutionary movement,” he said.

The president also highlighted Zanu-PF’s record in government, describing its achievements as a source of national pride that inspires Zimbabweans at home and abroad.

“Our national development philosophy is permeating to every Zimbabwean, including those in the Diaspora. Through this philosophy, we must safeguard our dignity and identity as truly independent Zimbabwean and African people,” Mnangagwa said.

He further called for unity and peace within Zanu-PF and across the nation, describing Zimbabwe as a “united, peaceful, and indivisible country.”
