A tragic crocodile attack has claimed the life of a 73-year-old woman at Biki Biki Dam in Insiza South District.

Matabeleland South Acting Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Stanford Mguni, confirmed the incident and said both the crocodile and the woman had not yet been found.

“We advise people to exercise extreme caution and avoid venturing into water bodies, particularly those suspected to be infested with crocodiles,” said Mguni.

The incident occurred on 2 May around 4:30pm, when the victim, identified as Christine Ndlovu of Village Head Bheka Moyo’s area, was dragged into the water by a crocodile.

According to witnesses, a 43-year-old woman fishing about 50 metres away heard Ndlovu’s screams and rushed to help.

“She saw the crocodile grabbing the woman and tried hitting it three times with a log, but it would not let go,” villagers recounted. “The crocodile eventually disappeared into the water with the victim.”

Local sources say this is not the first crocodile incident reported at the dam, raising concerns among residents.

Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife officials are currently on site, working to locate the victim’s body.
