Chief Fuyane to host cultural extravaganza in Maphisa
Chief Mayenga Fuyane is set to host a vibrant cultural event at Simukwe communal lands in Maphisa which will be showcasing the rich diverse cultures.
Scheduled for May 31, 2024, the event aims to unite people from various regions in celebrating their cultural heritage.
Speaking on The Breakfast Club, Chief Fuyane expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming cultural extravaganza.
“We will be hosting the Matabeleland South Province Culture Week launch on 31 May. All the Districts in Matabeleland South will be there to commemorate this day. The event starts at the national level then goes to the provincial level and district level then the chiefs’ villages, so this is a huge task,” he said.
“In 2018, I was invited to Enyandeni in Gwanda under Mzimunye and it was a culture day, the provincial launch, I was the guest of honour and was given the knobkerrie so that I would be the next one to hold the event but we were disturbed by the Covid-19, so we are now hosting it in 2024.”
Highlighting the essence of the day, chief Fuyane said, “The day will be a cultural day whereas traditional people from the Fuyane, Nguni, Kalanga, Ndebele we revisit what was done before by our great grandfathers. As the Fuyane clan we will exhibit our culture while those from other provinces will also exhibit their culture and the way they live in their areas.”
Acknowledging the absence of a chief in Bulawayo, he extended an invitation to its residents to partake in the cultural festivities.
“We have a great village here but they have no chief, Bulawayo has our children, we know that it is a king’s area and people from there will also be present to showcase what they have even though they don’t have a chief, but there are some people who are leading them.”
Furthermore, Chief Fuyane underscored the educational aspect of the event.
“It will also be a day to educate our children on how things used to be done and they can be proud of themselves so that when they go to other tribes, they don’t look down upon themselves.
“We have invited Ibutho Lenkwali from Bulawayo who promised to come with Mzilikazi primary school children, we also invited MaTshabalala who said is going to bring virgins, we also invited Intombi zakoJama, they are all from Bulawayo and we still making arrangements for them to get to Fuyane.”
In the spirit of inclusivity, he also extended an invitation to individuals from all provinces to join the cultural day.
“Everyone is free to attend even in other districts, this will be a huge event as others will be coming from South Africa, and even if people want to showcase their culture they are free to do so. Five beasts will be slaughtered and we promise that everyone is going to be well-fed,” said Chief Fuyane.
