105 hours of community service for Osiphatheleni
A Bulawayo court has ordered three suspected illegal foreign currency dealers to perform 105 hours of community service each after having been convicted of blocking free passage.
The trio appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Adelaide Mbeure on Thursday.
Ruse Takazviona (27), Beaulah Takazviwa (24) both from Njube and Portia Temayi (32) of Luveve pleaded guilty to a charge of obstructing free passage.
Magistrate Mbeure sentenced them to three months imprisonment each, wholly suspended on condition they perform 105 hours of community service at Insukamini Primary school and Mafakela primary school respectively.
Prosecutor Nkathazo Dlodlo told the court that the trio was arrested on October 22 at around 4PM after they were found seated at a pavement at corner Joshua Nkomo Street and 10th Avenue in the CBD.
Most of the illegal money traders have faced arrest over the past three weeks after Chief Justice Malaba expressed concern at the presence of the illegal money traders outside Tredgold Building which houses the Bulawayo Magistrates` courts while officiating at the opening of three additional courtrooms at the Bulawayo High Court
CJ Malaba tasked the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) in conjunction with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to take the illegal forex dealers commonly known as Osiphatheleni off the streets.
Most of the money traders have since moved from their usual operational places including Tredgold, corner Fort Street and 10th Ave.
