Langa withdraws from primary election rerun

By Promise Dube

Zanu PF Central Committee member, Andrew Langa, who was gunning for the Insiza South constituency seat has withdrawn from the ruling party’s primary election rerun.

Langa is also a former MP of Insiza North but was ousted after he fell out of favour due to factional politics in Zanu PF.

In an interview with CITE, Langa confirmed his withdrawal from the race to support the other contender, Spare Sithole.

“I will support the party candidate Hon Spare Sithole in the coming elections in order for the party to retain the seat and we also work together to win votes for our president, MP and councillors,” he said.

Langa did not reveal his reasons for his withdrawal.

However, in a statement released on April 16, 2023 to Insiza locals, Langa implied his decision was motivated by discussions with President Mnangagwa.

“l Andrew Langa has withdrawn from the race in line with the wisdom provided by his excellency to maintain party stability in the constituency and balance traditional leaders views on the constituency”.

Andrew Langa who noticed that this decision may not be easy to many, said people need to accept it as it is in the interest of the party cohesion. He urged those who were behind him to work with the rest of the party members to achieve the goal of ensuring that Zanu PF wins the seat.

“l call upon all those who were behind my candidature to accept my decision and work with the rest of the party members to achieve the goal of ensuring that Zanu PF wins the seat”, he said.

“l would like to thank all our campaign teams and mobilises as well as those who voted for us. Let’s continue working in all party programs for our president to achieve 5 million votes”.
