Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists in Gwabalanda, Bulawayo have resorted to using loud hailers to encourage eligible residents to register as voters in the ongoing voter registration blitz.
Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is currently conducting the last round of mobile voter registration exercise before the 2023 general elections.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is yet to proclaim the election dates.
Bulawayo has 71 voter registration centres and the mobile voter registration exercise ends on 21 March 2023.
CITE caught up with Descent Bajila in Gwabanda who was moving around with a hailer encouraging people to register to vote.
“We have been mobilising people to come to Maplanka registration centre to get registered to vote. We have been using this loud hailer and we have been working together with residents of this area, particularly members of CCC, we have been working very well,” said Bajila.
He said he was inspired by informal traders in the city centre who use loud hailers to market their products.
“We managed to buy it so that we can use it to push around, the reality is that this thing is very effective in the sense that if you check voter registration numbers in Bulawayo, this station where we are mobilising people using loud hailer has the highest number of people registering to vote,” he said.
