A police officer was stabbed to death while reportedly trying to break up a fight between a patron and a bartender at a bar in Figtree on Saturday morning.
The deceased who has been identified as Detective Sergeant Lovedany Madambi (39) was trying to maintain order at hotel bar when he was stabbed with an unknown object by one Mthulis Moyo.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and said the suspect has since been arrested.
“I can confirm one suspect Mthulisi Moyo aged 25 years has been arrested in connection with the murder of a police officer, Detective sergeant Lovedany Madambi which occurred at the hotel bar in Fig tree which occurred on the 8th of October 2022 around 2 am,” said commissioner Nyathi.
“The victim had reprimanded the suspect for pestering the bar attendant to sell him cigarettes after the bar had closed for the day.”
In an unrelated case, Police in Nkayi are investigating a suspected murder case where a body of an unknown male adult, approximately 30 years old, was found lying beside the road at the 138km peg along Bulawayo-Nkayi Road on Friday.
The victim was wearing a black T-shirt, maroon shorts, and white tackies.
The body had three deep cuts on the left side of the head and bruises all over.
