The production of the much-awaited film, Ziyanda, is set to kickoff in November this year, with the South Africa-based film producer Bonginhlanhla ‘Mr B’ Ncube already in the country to meet with part of the cast and crew.
Ziyanda is a feature film which tells the human trafficking story through the lens of African women.
The film is the idea of Dumisani Nkomo, the Managing director of Ramatsatsi Productions.
Speaking to the media at a breakfast meeting, Wednesday, Nkomo said the film ”is set to become Zimbabwe’s largest film ever in scope, magnitude and reach”.
The film producers envisage a high-concept film meeting international standards of storytelling and production quality, said Nkomo.
Nkomo said the film boasts an experienced crew and cast featured in successful productions.
“South Africa-based Zimbabwean-born multi-award winning film director, Bonginhlanhla Ncube, a.k.a “Mr B” has been engaged in the film as Director and tasked with realising the creation of the film. Mr B is a well-known brand in South Africa who has Directed Mnet TV flick, 48, a successful theatrical release action comedy hit, Safe Bet, and Botswana’s biggest BTV Original Series, Colours, “ said Nkomo.
He said alongside Mr B is another heavyweight and key creative, Michael Mutombo, originally from DRC but based in South Africa.
“Mike is a critically acclaimed cinematographer whose work spans from international productions such as District 9, Harry’s Game and his recent film 1960 picked best South African feature film award at the Oscar Qualifying Durban International Film Festival.”
Nkomo said the “combination of these two African giants together with a talent-laden cast sets the film for success in the African film landscape”.
He said filming the production in Bulawayo will help market the country as a tourist destination and contribute to the economy.
