Family appeals for help for burn victim

The family of a nine-year-old Hwange girl who was severely burnt by an underground coal fire a week ago are appealing for assistance from well-wishers to settle medical bills and acquire medication.

Alisha Sekina Muzwiti got injured after she had gone to relieve herself at a nearby bush in the company of her maternal aunt.

She went to a spot close to an old mine dump when the ground collapsed underneath her feet resulting in her suffering serious burns on both legs, stomach and chest.

Alisha is currently receiving treatment at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo.

In an interview with CITE, her father Andy Muzwiti narrated her daughter’s ordeal.

“We are struggling financially, the doctors here give us lists of medication needed to treat our child but it is very expensive. I went back to Hwange to sell a cow to help settle the bills but the money I got is not enough. There is food for my wife, she literally stays here at the hospital and she is breastfeeding,” he said.

“The mining company I work for did not even help me financially. Even the Hwange Colliery company, which is responsible for the premises where my child got injured, has not rendered any assistance yet.”

Those who wish to assist them can send funds via Ecocash to Andy Muzwiti 078 5437185 or Ethel Yenzani Ncube on 0777 395 526.

Bank transfers can be sent to Stanbic Bank Andy Muzwiti Nostro 9140001999531 or RTGS 9140003619329.
