BCC budget consultation meetings begin

Bulawayo City Council (BCC) 2022 Budget consultation meetings kicked off, Tuesday, as the local authority engages various stakeholders to review the performance of the 2021 budget and present the proposed budget for next year.

Due to Covid-19 regulations, the meetings will be held virtually via WhatsApp and Zoom platforms between September 28 and September 30.

According to a council statement, Ward representatives will meet at the Large City Hall between 9:30 and 11:30 on Tuesday while informal traders will meet at the same venue from 14:30 to 15:30. Women will also meet at the Large City Hall on September 29 at 9:30.

The Business community and the media will be virtually consulted on September 29 at 9:30 and at 14:30 respectively. NGO’s, civic society and churches will be engaged on September 30 at 9:30.

For interaction with residents, BCC has created 29 WhatsApp groups where residents will be given the opportunity to share their inputs with their councillors and council staff.

A separate group was created for the youth to contribute to the budget and they will be engaged on September 30 via WhatsApp between 13:00 and 15:00.

Meanwhile, Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA) last week condemned the use of WhatsApp platforms, citing they were inconvenient last year as residents either did not have data or the suggested times were inconvenient for them to partake.
