Zimbabwe’s Covid-19 positivity rate which has been on a decline together with infections as the country intensified the fight against the pandemic has since dropped to 7.1 percent.
Positivity rate refers to the percentage of people who test positive for the virus of those overall who have been tested or the percentage of all coronavirus tests performed that come out positive.
According to the statistics released by the Ministry of Health and Child Care, of the 4, 914 Covid-19 tests conducted Monday, 349 were positive, translating into a positivity rate of 7.1 percent.
“As of 23 August 2021, Zimbabwe has recorded 123, 001 cases, 107, 759 recoveries and 4, 293 deaths,” said the Ministry of Health in its latest update.
A total of 949 new recoveries were recorded yesterday with the national recovery rate now standing at 88 percent while active cases have since gone down to 10, 949.
While daily infections have gone down in the country, deaths still remain high with 44 people having succumbed to the pandemic yesterday.
The seven-day rolling average for new infections fell to 352 yesterday from 366 on Sunday
“As of 23 August 2021, at 1500 hours there were 358 hospitalised cases,” said the Ministry of Health in its daily update late Monday.
The covid-19 situation is significantly improving in the country at a time when the government is intensifying its vaccination drive with over 2, 3 million people having received their first jab while the figure for the fully vaccinated Zimbabweans now stands at over 1, 4 million.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has kept the country under the tightened level four measures, whose review is however imminent considering the improved situation in the country.
Under the current lockdown measures, businesses operate from 0800 hours and close at 1530hours with intercity movement being prohibited, except for production and distribution of food and medicine.
