ZIMBABWE recorded 1 249 new Covid-19 infections and 12 deaths on Tuesday with the country sliding back to a strict level four national lockdown.
The new restrictions include a ban on intercity travel, custodial sentences for fake Covid-19 certificate holders and mandatory quarantine for deportees and those from countries with Alpha and Delta Covid-19 variants.
The general curfew will now start at 6.30 pm and end at 6am while businesses will now operate from 8am-3.30pm.
Of the 1 249 new cases reported yesterday, all were local infections and the highest cases were recorded in Mashonaland West with 387 new cases.
The second highest new cases were recorded in Harare with 182 new cases followed by Mashonaland Central with 122 new cases.
The Midlands Province recorded 120 new cases, Bulawayo recorded 86 new cases, Mashonaland East recorded 85 new cases, Matabeleland South recorded 83 new cases, of the 83 new cases 57 new cases were from Monday which had not been reported.
Masvingo recorded 78 new cases, Manicaland recorded 59 new cases while Matabeleland North recorded 47 new cases.
“1 249 new cases (all local and 12 deaths reported today (7 day rolling average for new cases rises to 831 today from 727 yesterday),” said the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
The Covid-19 hotspot areas include Magunje (28), Chidamoyo (30) Mashonaland West, Centenary (29) Mashonaland Central, Marondera (40) Mashonaland East, Masvingo (12), Chiredzi (48) Masvingo Province, Zvishavane (61)Midlands, Nkulumane (14), Emakhandeni (17) and Northern Suburbs (55) Bulawayo.
The number of deaths were recorded in Bulawayo (5), Harare (5), Midlands (1) and Masvingo (1).
The Ministry added that 6 461 people received their first dose yesterday bringing the cumulative for the first dose to 770 709 while 9 982 received their second dose bringing the cumulative for the second dose to 544 888.
“374 new recoveries: National recovery rate stands at 79 per cent and active cases go up to 8 449. As of 29 June 2021, Zimbabwe has recorded 48 533 cases, 38 323 recoveries and 1 761.
