Zim Covid-19 positive cases on the increase

Eighty-three people tested positive to Covid-19 in Zimbabwe yesterday with statistics showing that the country is recording an increase in new cases. 

Of the 83 new cases, Bulawayo province recorded 28 new cases. 

According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care latest report, all the 83 cases were all local cases. 

“83 new cases (all local) and six deaths reported in the last 24 hours. (The 7-day rolling average for new cases rose to 46 today from 39 yesterday,” said the report. 

Other cases were recorded in Matabeleland North with 14 cases, Mashonaland West Recorded 12 new case, Masvingo 11 cases, Harare recorded nine new cases, Manicaland recorded four cases, Mashonaland Central recorded three cases while Mashonaland East and Midlands both recorded one case each. 

The Ministry of Health and Child Care also reported six deaths in the last 24 hours. 

Bulawayo and Harare both recorded two Covid-19 deaths while Manicaland and Mashonaland West recorded one death each. 

The country has 948 active cases, with Harare accounting for Harare 405 active cases. 

The second highest active cases are in Masvingo with 138 active cases, followed by Matabeleland South with 103 active cases, Bulawayo 86 active cases, Midlands with 67 active cases, Mashonaland West 54 active cases, Matabeleland North 51 active cases, Manicaland 26 active cases, Mashonaland Central 10 active cases and Mashonaland East has eight active cases 

“10 new recoveries reported: national recovery rate stands at 93 percent and active cases go down to 948 today. As of 08 June 2021, Zimbabwe has recorded 39 321 cases, 36 756 recoveries and 1 617 deaths,” the report read.

“Vaccination update: 701 received their first dose today bringing cumulative for the first dose to 689 397 while 4 137 received their second dose bringing cumulative for the second dose to 389 412 (as at 1600hrs). 

According to the statistics, 73 people are currently hospitalised. 

“As of 7 June 2021, at 1500hrs there were 73 hospitalized cases, asymptomatic six, mild to moderate 55. Severe nine and three are in intensive care units,” the health ministry said.
