Umguza RDC treasurer robbery suspects arrested
Six armed robbers who allegedly robbed Umguza Rural District Council treasurer Cosmas Nkomo at gunpoint at his family home in Bulawayo’s Montgomery suburb were arrested on Tuesday, police have confirmed.
The police apprehended one of the suspects, from whom they recovered the vehicle used in the commission of the offence and he implicated the five other suspects.
Acting Bulawayo police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said the quintet will appear in court soon.
Inspector Msebele told CITE that the robbery occurred on April 9 at around 1:30AM at King Fair Farm, Montgomery.
Abednico Ndlovu (29), Atkins Mahinzwi (36), Bruce Moyo (30), Senzo Siziba (42), Kelvin Dzumbunu (29) and Gift Mwale (38) are facing charges of armed robbery.
Insp Msebele said the crew stole two laptops, four cellphones, a decoder, adapter, car keys to a government vehicle and US$550 in cash.
She said total value of the stolen property and cash stolen amounted to US$3 655-00 and ZWL$100-00.
“The other two accused persons grabbed the complainant and tied his hands from the back using a necktie. The one armed with a knife then pointed a gun to the complainant’s hrad demanding cash. They ransacked his room and took a brown envelope containing $550 and a Samsung Note 4 cellphone.”
Insp Msebele said the other four unarmed men proceeded to one of the bedrooms where the complainant’s son was sleeping and demanded valuables while the two armed men remained guarding the complainant whom they had tied up..
“From there they went to another bedroom where the complainant’s two daughters were sleeping and demanded valuables. They took away two Iphone cellphones, a Samsung S9 cellphone, two laptops and their chargers.
Inspector Msebele said Ndlovu was the first to be arrested and he implicated his other assailants, who upon arrest, led the police to the recovery of the weapons used during the commission of the offence.
