Police launch manhunt for serial robber

Police in Bulawayo have launched a manhunt for a suspected serial carjacker Edmore Zinyoro over a spate of robberies in the city and in other parts of the country.

Zinyoro who usually moves around with a team of four or more accomplices armed with axes and knives.
 
In a statement, the police said in the latest incident Zinyoro and his accomplices robbed a man of his Honda Fit vehicle along the Inyathi-Bulawayo highway which was tracked to Zinyoroโ€™s house in Kwekwe.  

ย โ€œOn the 18th of February 2021 at around 1900hrs, the complainant was driving his silver Honda Fit registration number AEE5092 coming from Inyathi to Bulawayo when he was approached by the accused person Edmore Zinyoro (alias: Edy Muchada), National Registration unknown born on 07/08/94, of ย Murevachimweย villageย in Gutu district under Chief Chitsa and his last known address is 3156 Simbi Park Kwekwe.

โ€œHe was in the company of five unknown male accomplices at the green bus stop near Nkenyane area which is along the Inyathi- Bulawayo highway in Bubi District. The accused and his accomplices hired the complainant to ferry them to Bulawayo,โ€ said Bulawayo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube.

He said when the gang reached Bulawayo they connived and robbed the complainant of his motor vehicle at knifepoint.

โ€œWhen the gang reached Bulawayo, they then connived and robbed the complainant of his motor vehicle at knifepoint around midnight at corner Robert Mugabe Way and 1st avenue Bulawayo just opposite Bulawayo prison. They drove along Bulawayo-Harare highway and subsequently dumped him along Rosetta road in Montgomery Bulawayo which branches off from Harare roadโ€.

Inspector Ncubeย added that the accused tied the complainantโ€™s legs and hands with a car seat belt and drove away.

He said a few days after the robbery, police received information from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Vehicle Theft Squad (VTS)ย in Bulawayo that the stolen vehicle was spotted at Zinyoroโ€™sย house in Kwekwe.

โ€œA follow-up was made leading to the recovery of the vehicle at his place but the accused person could not be located,โ€ said the police spokesperson.

He added that Zinyoro is also wanted for other similar cases which he committed around Bulawayo and other parts of the country.

โ€œWhile efforts to locate the accused person at his last known address and other places were fruitless his whereabouts are currently not known and his last known whereabouts were in Chinhoyi,โ€ said Inspector Ncube.

He appealed to anyoneย who might have any information that can lead to Zinyoroโ€™s arrest to contact the officer in charge CID VTS Bulawayo on telephone numbers 02922-64047 or 02922-73400 or the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Maronga on mobile number 0733 395 078 or any nearest police station.ย
