Byo man stones wife to death

A 43-year-old man from Trenance in Bulawayo has been arrested for fatally assaulting his wife over an undisclosed matter on Saturday evening.    

The deceased has been identified as Meryln Walters aged 38 years old while the accused is Craig Walters. 

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident to CITE. 

 “On 23 January 2021 at around 1900hours, Craig Walters was with his wife, the now deceased, at a bushy area behind number 2 Bulawayo Drive, Trenance, when they had a misunderstanding over an undisclosed issue. He then assaulted the now deceased with stones, fists and booted feet and left her lying on the ground and proceeded to his place of residence,” said Inspector Ncube. 

He later returned to the spot in the company of their two children and they ferried the deceased to their home.

“On the same day at around 2200hours, the accused person took the deceased’s daughter, a female adult aged 18 years of the same address, a male juvenile aged 14 years, also of the same address to a bushy area behind number 2 Bulawayo Drive Trenance and carried the now deceased to their house. 

 “On the same day, the deceased’s daughter phoned her uncle who is the informant and advised him that the now deceased was seriously injured and unconscious. On the same day the informant proceeded to the accused person’s place of residence and discovered that the now deceased had passed on,” said the Police spokesperson. 

Inspector Ncube added that the Craig`s brother then made a report to the police.

“On 24 January 2021 at around 0130 hours, the informant proceeded to ZRP Saursetown and made a report. Police attended the scene and found the now deceased lying dead covered with a blanket on a Sofa in the lounge room. Preliminary investigations made at the scene indicated that the deceased sustained a cut on the forehead, a swollen right hand, a deep cut on the left hand and a deep cut on the right-side thigh,” he said. 

“The deceased was dressed in a T-shirt which was soaked in blood on the left hand and a skirt. The body of the deceased was ferried to United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH) for post moterm. The accused is detained and investigations are in progress,”. 

Bulawayo Provincial police spokesperson said they continue to urge members of the public to seek intervention from family members, church elders or the police when they cannot resolve matters.
