Thieves break into NGO offices, make off with solar equipment
Police in Bulawayo are appealing to people who may have information that can lead to the identification of culprits who stole solar equipment at Ithe offices of Inspire, a local organisation based in Phelandaba suburb.
Bulawayo Police Spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube said they are investigating a case of unlawful entry into premises and theft.
“This happened on the 4th of December when the informant left the premises locked and he opened on the 7th of December thus when he realised that there was a break in. The total value stolen is ZWL$769 115,” he said.
“He stole a blue solar charger controller, one blue Vitron energy-phoenix inverter, two black LFP lithium battery, one electric sewing machine, ten power supply cables, four VGA cables, five mouse and one CPU, monitor and key board.”
“We are appealing for members of the public to work with us to curb these criminal activities,” said Inspector Ncube.
Meanwhile, Programmes Director at the organisation Gift Sanyamahwe said they had installed the solar systems two weeks back.
“It was our back up source for the ZESA as we are running a skills centre for the youth, women and men,” said Sanyamahwe.
He said the organisation is going to be greatly affected and this is going to be a setback on classes.
“We have different courses such as ICT, Graphic design, dressmaking, cooking and many more. If we have no electricity it means we have to stop,” he said.
Those with information can contact Gift Sanyamahwe on 0778 827 688 or contact any nearest police station.
