Car climbs onto pavement, hits five pedestrians

Five people sustained various injuries after vehicle that had been involved in a freak accident veered off the road, mounted a pavement and hit the pedestrians. 

The incident occurred at around 7am at the intersection of Leopold Takawira Avenue and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Street. 

Acting Bulawayo Police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident. 

“The first party was driving due West along Leopold Takawira with three passengers on board, the second party was driving due East turning South into Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo with one passenger on board,” said Assistant Inspector Msebele.

“Circumstances are that first party was driving due West along L.Takawira when the second party who was driving due East along the same road intending to turn right turning South into Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo when he hit the first party of on the right side and the first party lost control of the vehicle. He drove into a pavement and hit five pedestrians,” she said.
