Khupe expelled from parliament
Former MDC-T Vice President Thokozani Khupe has lost her parliamentary seat after the mainstream opposition party recalled him from parliament.
Khupe was last month fired from the party together with party spokesperson Obert Gutu and organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe.
The fallout which emanated from power struggles between Khupe and party president Nelson Chamisa following the death of founding president Morgan Tsvangirai saw the former being thrown of the party`s provincial headquarters in Bulawayo.
Khupe was the MDC-T Member of Parliament for Bulawayo Metropolitan and she was the party leader in parliament.
Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda informed the National Assembly on Thursday that he had received communication from the MDC-T indicating that Khupe was no longer a member of the party and had ceased to represent the party in parliament.
“Therefore a vacancy has arisen for the Bulawayo Metropolitan Proportional representation seat, the house will make necessary arrangements to inform the President and ZEC,” Advocate Mudenda announced.
During her tenure in Parliament Khupe successfully pushed a motion recommending the introduction of a cancer levy.
She survived breast cancer and has been championing for the setting up of clinical cancer testing centres in the country.
