POLICE in Bulawayo are looking for three suspects who carjacked a woman at gunpoint after she gave them a lift into the city centre on Wednesday.
The incident took place along Cecil Avenue, when the 44-year-old woman, driving a Nissan Bluebird Sylphy registration number ADX 6823, stopped to give a lift to three men.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube told CITE that investigations into the case are underway.
“A lady aged 44 years from Newton West was driving her vehicle, a bluebird Nissan Sylphy registration number ADX 6823, she was coming into town, on her way she offered a lift to three unknown males along Cecil Avenue who also said they were coming into town,” said Inspector Ncube.
“On the way one of the males claimed that he had forgotten something then he requested this lady to drive back. She turned into Cecil Avenue driving towards Matopo’s road where she was asked to stop.
“One of the guys disembarked from the vehicle as if he was paying the transport fare and the other one who was seated behind the driver’s seat strangled her and demanding cash.
Insp Ncube said the woman tried to hoot to draw the attention of a passerby but the suspects produced a knife and pistol and threatened to kill her.
They dragged her out the car and hit her on the back of her head before the suspects drove off in her car.
“This complainant also lost her handbag which had a Samsung phone valued at US$150, cash amounting to US$40 and ZWL$30 and some identification particulars,” he told CITE.
Insp Ncube urged people to avoid giving lifts to strangers.
