YOUTHS in Bulawayo are worried by slow service provision at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission offices where they are supposed to register to partake in the 2018 elections.
This comes on Monday after youths left the Famona offices without registering despite having waited in queues for long hours.
“It’s now midday and we are still queuing since morning and we have other commitments. I have to go to school so l cannot stand here any longer”, said Neatness Nyoni, a youth from Pumula South.
“l filled the affidavit forms early in the morning but l am still standing here, l am tired and leaving”, said Debra Dhlamini.
ZEC registers one person in more than 20 minutes.
Another visibly frustrated youth, Thando Nyoni said he went to the ZEC offices in the morning hoping to be done by 12 pm so that he could attend to other commitments, but he had not registered by midday.
Voter registration started on the 18th of September and will stretch up to 15 January 2018. ZEC Chairperson Rita Makarau said the ZEC is targeting to register at least seven million people and a national voter registration blitz is expected to begin next month after the electoral body takes delivery of the remaining 2 600 BVR kits.
