18 more people succumb to Covid-19

Eighteen more people succumbed to Covid-19 yesterday as the country’s death cases remain high, the update from the Ministry of Health and Child Care indicates.

To date 4 338 people have died due to Covid-19 in Zimbabwe.

Even though there is a slight decrease of Covid-19 daily infections following a surge of cases during the third wave, the Covid -19 deaths have remained worrying to the health experts.

Of the 18 deaths recorded yesterday, the highest number of deaths were recorded in Bulawayo and Matabeleland South with each province recording five Covid-19 deaths.

Mashonaland Central recorded four deaths, Mashonaland West reported two deaths while Masvingo and Manicaland both recorded one death each.

“391 new cases (all local) and 18 deaths reported today,” the ministry reported. 

The health ministry said for the seven-day rolling average the new cases fell to 324 yesterday from another previously recorded 324.

Of the 5 896 tests conducted yesterday, the positivity was 6.6 percent.

“838 new recoveries: national recovery rate stands at 89percent and active cases go down to 9 875. As of 25 August 2021, Zimbabwe has recorded 123 711 cases, 109 498 recoveries and 4 338 deaths.”

The ministry added that 39 897 people received their first dose yesterday bringing the cumulative for the first dose to 2 422 256 while 28 853 people received their second dose bringing the cumulative for the second dose to 1 535 298.

Meanwhile, as of 24 August 2021, there were 340 hospitalised cases; new admissions 30, asymptomatic98, mild to moderate169, severe 28 and 25 in Intensive Care Units.
